The City of Fort Worth Police Department is seeking a Victim Assistance Specialist to provide crisis intervention services and assistance to citizens who are victims of crime and to inform citizens of their rights as a victim of crime.
Provide crisis intervention with crime victims, refer to appropriate community resources.
Compile statistics on crime victims; assess needs of crime victims; make community presentations on victims compensation; inform victims about the criminal justice system, legal options, and victimology.
Assist victims of crime in completion of applications for crime victims compensation as set out by the Texas Attorney Generals office.
Make presentations to citizen groups with reference to the Victim Assistance program.
Assist eligible applicants and crime victims with information on other community services or agencies who may provide assistance on specific needs.
Promote community awareness of programs through community meetings, other community agencies, public education programs and related forums.
Maintain current information on rules and regulations imposed by agencies on specific programs.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice or a related field PLUS 2 years related experience working with crime victims in a social setting. Must have knowledge of intervention and victimology, victim services and the needs of victims of crimes.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:This is a heavy public contact position; preference will be given to those with a Master's Degree in a relative field, bilingual skills (Spanish) and prior experience working with victims of Family Violence.
The successful candidate will be proficient with the following:
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver's license required in addition to passing drug screen, extensive background check and polygraph examination.
Office and field environment; as assigned, may work in police or court environment; exposure to computer screens.
Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time.
Conditions of Employment: Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver's license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement. You will be paid by direct deposit or pay card only.
