Fort Worth, Texas PD has an immediate opening for a Crime Analyst to compile and analyze crime based on requests from internal and external sources. This position will gather, compile, and analyze data to assist in the investigation and identifications of career criminals and criminal activity in an effort to increase the effectiveness of patrol deployment and investigations, case screening, and deployment of special operations.
Reviewing police reports, detecting trends, series, or patterns, and preparing appropriate tactical, strategic and administrative crime analysis reports and maps. Knowledge and ability to use various database, spreadsheet, word-processing, and crime mapping software is necessary. Use predictive analysis and mapping methods to project and highlight criminal activities. Focusing on month, day, time, location patterns and cluster of incidents, compares and determines associations and frequency of events. Research individual, groups and vehicles to maintain prolific offender dossiers. Prepares daily, weekly, monthly and annual statistical crime reports.
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field such as criminal justice, statistics, geography, or a related field PLUS 2 years increasingly responsible experience in crime analysis, including experience in the analysis of crime data using various computer programs, such as ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, SQL Reporting Services, SPSS, or SAS.
Experience with Microsoft: WORD, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, heavy phone, heavy public contact and GIS required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Experience in the use of spatial statistics in the field of crime analysis. Experience in the use of GIS to conduct various types of spatial analysis. A working knowledge of relational databases, crime analysis methodology, and the criminal justice field is also helpful, along with the ability to conduct complex statistical analysis such as time series analysis, trend projection, and related analyses. Ability to present facts and render opinions to all levels of a public safety organization. Experience in police/automated systems, (i.e.CAD/RMS). Knowledge of law enforcement operations and procedures Proficiency in data-entry/formatting, database management, and software programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Power Point is required.
