The Transportation and Public Works Department- Infrastructure Design and Construction Division is seeking a Construction Inspector I to inspect work quality and materials used in a variety of public works projects including the construction, repair, maintenance or alteration of streets, curbs, sidewalks, drainage facilities, underground utilities and related structures; to ensure conformance with City standards, specifications and safety standards.
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by college or technical school coursework in Engineering, Architecture, Construction or a related field. Proof of coursework will be required if selected for interview. Two years of experience in the interpretation of plans and specifications in the public works construction industry or building inspection or residential construction experience required.
Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word skills are required. Preference may be given to higher levels of education, experience and certifications as they relate to the job vacancy.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Field and office environment; construction site environment; exposure to inclement weather conditions; work around heavy construction equipment; may be required to work on elevated structures; may be required to enter underground culverts and pipes.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:Candidates must possess a valid Class C drivers license and an acceptable driving record. Candidates will be required to maintain physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged period time and perform moderate to heavy lifting.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, the City of Fort Worth Level I Construction Inspection Certification preferred.
