The Housing and Economic Development Department is seeking a qualified candidate for its Community Development division. The Community Development division manages several federal grants including HOME, CDBG, ESG and HOPWA. The grants are used to fund real estate developments and infrastructure improvements in the central city, and to fund other programs that benefit low and moderate income citizens.
The Community Development Specialist would assist in these programs and developments. An ideal candidate will have strong Excel, math and writing skills. This position is intended for a candidate looking to move into a career in public administration or real estate development.
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university is required, PLUS three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in project management, real estate, local government, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Preference may be given to higher levels of education, and relevant experience as it relates to the job vacancy.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Heavy phone and public contact required. MS Access and GIS experience preferred. The position requires some occasional evening work. Prior to interviews, candidates will be tested on Excel, math and writing skills.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:Office environment; exposure to computer screens; travel within the City required. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time; manual dexterity; must be able to operate assigned equipment including lifting and carrying trade show displays weighing up to 50lbs.
Conditions of Employment: Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver's license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement.
