POSITION REQUIRES WORKING 7:00 AM-6:30 PM; 7 DAYS A WEEK/ROTATING SCHEDULE; WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
The City of Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Division is seeking to hire a qualified applicant to supervise Animal Shelter operations. Specific responsibilities will include oversight of two animal satellite adoption centers, education/ outreach program, and the volunteer program.
Duties to enforcement of State and City laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to animal control; plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of employees responsible for municipal code investigation, inspection and enforcement activities in Code Compliance; participate in the selection of employees; provide or coordinate employee training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures; and prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
High School diploma OR GED supplemented by specialized training in one or more of the following fields: code compliance, animal control or enforcement, health inspections, public health or building/construction trades PLUS four (4) years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines: code compliance (direct code enforcement of field inspection), animal control, building or construction trades, zoning or health inspections PLUS one (1) year of administrative and /or lead supervisory experience required. MS Word and Excel experience required. Management/Supervisory and extensive public contact work experience required.
Preference given to candidates possessing an Associates degree or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Animal Science, Veterinarian Technician, or other related field. Associates or Bachelors degree may be substituted for two years experience. Preference will be given to candidates that have any of the demonstrated experience:
1. Working within animal shelter or veterinarian clinic environments
2. Assisting customers in a large veterinarian clinic
3. Supervising an animal related retail environment
4. Working with animal shelter management software
5. Managing a volunteer program or animal related education program.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid class C drivers license is required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, the Animal Control Officer Basic Certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services is required.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
Office environment; exposure to computer screens, travel from site to site; field environment; work in inclement weather conditions
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; some walking on a daily basis; may inspect in confined spaces; climbing, stooping, kneeling, heavy lifting.
Conditions of Employment: Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver's license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement.
