The City of Fort Worth Code Compliance Department is seeking to hire qualified applicants for Code Compliance Officers to investigate complaints and enforce the municipal building code including the minimum housing standards, environmental health and zoning ordinances (i.e. inspecting private property, conducting investigations, and recognizing fire, life, health and safety hazards to self and others; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This position will also investigate complaints and violations related to the functional areas within the Code Compliance Department to include code enforcement, substandard buildings, solid waste, animal control and consumer health.
This position involves extensive customer interaction through face-to-face personnel contact, written communication and via telephone; reading and interpreting ordinances; issuing violation notices and stop-work orders; conferring with owners, violators, complainants and authorities to explain City policy, ordinances and recommend rectifications; preparing correspondence and reports of inspections, investigations and recommendations for action; maintaining daily logs and supplemental inspection reports with photographs; testifying in court and administrative proceedings concerning investigation findings; and coordinating with or assisting City of Fort Worth Police Department and other City departments in matters of mutual concern.
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
High School diploma OR GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, zoning regulations or related field PLUS one (1) year of general experience in building or construction trades, zoning, public health outreach or enforcement of local, state and federal laws or regulations (i.e. writing citations, enforcing ordinances) required. Six months of the above experience in field inspection or municipal code is preferred. Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and the Internet is required. Preference will be given to applicants with higher levels of education.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid class C drivers license is required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification within twelve months of the date of hire is required or Registration as, or ability to meet requirements for registration as, a Code Enforcement Officer or a Code Enforcement Officer in Training in the State of Texas is required.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
Office environment; exposure to computer screens, travel from site to site; field environment; work in inclement weather conditions.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; some walking on a daily basis; may inspect in confined spaces; climbing, stooping, kneeling, heavy lifting.
Conditions of Employment: Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver's license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement.
