The Police / Employment Services unit has an immediate opening for an Administrative Assistant who is highly knowledgeable about workers compensation, FMLA and ADAAA.

This position will occasionally provide training to both sworn and general employees and should possess the necessary communication skills to articulate that knowledge to others both orally and in writing.

The Police Department is the largest in the city and has a very dynamic high risk workforce.

Knowledge of civil service rules and workers compensation laws is critical.

This position will also coordinate major medical leave, non-occupational injuries or leave, and military leave.

The ideal candidate will have combined complex administrative, clerical, analytical experience; and have demonstrated customer focus and teamwork capability along with skills in interpreting policy and law and the ability to adapt to ever changing daily priorities.

Must provide professional customer service to all employees and vendors in a fast-paced environment in the Citys largest department.

Skills / Requirements

* Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college with major coursework in Business Management, Public or Business Administration or a related field PLUS two (2) years of Workers Compensation experience highly preferred.

{ * An Associates of Arts Degree in noted or related field, plus four (4) years of Workers Compensation / Medical Records / FMLA experience...

A High School Diploma or GED Certificate, plus six (6) years of Workers Compensation / Medical Records / FMLA experience may substitute for noted Bachelors Degree.}

Microsoft Office skills are required.

Proficiency and skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook with ability to perform scheduling is required.

Must have the necessary computer skills to comfortably navigate both internal and external databases.

Must be detail oriented and have the ability to prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports.

Due to the size of the staff, this position will be required to assist other team members and perform other duties as necessary.

PLEASE NOTE: The selected candidate will be subject to a background check, polygraph and pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of three (3) years experience with a high volume of workers comp. claims including dealing with 3rd party administrators, experience in preparing and reviewing DWC forms, monitoring and tracking claims and expenditures, frequent personal and professional customer service and communications (both oral and written) with injured employees and their supervisors.

Knowledge of limited duty work and ADAAA laws needed.

The ability to work within a team is critical.

Prior experience as a workers compensation adjustor or insurance adjustor would be a plus.

Management / supervisory skills also a plus.
